20 Publishers in 30 Days: The Adventures of an Author

I really want to get this wedding planning book published.

Positives?
  • No other books exist like this one.
  • I have lots of connections to priests and lay who would contribute volumes on this subject.
  • I have an outline already.
  • I've done the research.
  • The number of Catholic weddings per anum, the number of priests and lay who agree with the need for such a voice in the darkness, and the requirements of pre-cana provide the perfect avenue for distribution.
Challenges?
  • I need a Catholic publishing company, or a publisher willing to publish Catholic books.
  • Catholic publishing is notorious for not providing Catholics with up-to-date, modern literature about real-life planning and events.
  • I'm scared that this idea will be stolen and my manuscript will not be accepted by publishers, thus I have not proposed the topic to any publishers.
Prayer:

Dear Lord,

Help me to make myself accountable through this blog. I desire to bring your priorities into the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony as engaged couples prepare for the ceremony allowing two people to bestow grace to one another for a lifetime.

Amen.

Resolution:

Starting today, I am going to create the accountability for querying 20 publishers in 30 days. If you have any ideas, I would appreciate them greatly. I want to spend an hour on this every day for these 30 days.

Plan:

Day 1 - Propose this plan on the blog! DONE!
Day 2 - Open the Writer's Market and Google for publishers of Catholic books, or reverse-searching, going after publishers who have already published like-minded literature (scarce). Goal: 20 prospects.
Day 2 - Organize in a spreadsheet which ones allow simultaneous publishing and which ones do not.
Day 3 - Write a bangarang query letter template.
Day 4 - Purchase stamps and envelopes and SASE them.
Day 5 - Day 9: Create a spreadsheet for keeping track of sent manuscripts. Adjust days as necessary for editing query letter to each individual publisher.
Day 10-30: Write to one publisher a day, keeping track.
Days Following "20 Publishers in 30 Days" - Report on SASE Responses

Did you know that the "Wizard of Oz" was rejected dozens of times? Does anyone know exactly how many?

I'm ready!
