Someone said of newlyweds over dinner, "You can't get away from the label of 'newness' written across your foreheads." I guess it's true... two people new to something they've never tried before - marriage.
So then the next comment was, "Start from the beginning." Then Mark responded, "A very good place to start."
So, as all good little girls who grew up on "The Sound of Music" do, I belted out,
"Start from the very beginning, a very good place to start, ABC, do-re-mi..." Oddly enough, no one knew what I was singing about. That's sad. Musicals used to be the primary source of entertainment in America. What happened?
I have a friend who, when he is one day rich and famous, will pay musicians, dancers, and singers to show up at some random place in the city, perform a song from a musical, break out into singing and dancing (pre-choreographed), and then disperse as though nothing ever happened. All of this supports the idea that real life needs a bit more spontaneity and good, old-fashioned entertainment.
